I've been deeply involved in community development for many years and in many different ways. For the last decade I've had the privilege of working in the Victory neighbourhood of Nelson.
When I first began working in Victory, I worked in a little space carved out for me above the staff room of the Victory Primary School. Now I work from an office in a purpose-built community centre in the school campus.
Victory is the hub of an extraordinary range of activities which improve the lives and the connectedness of the people who live here. The neighbourhood has grown into a community.
The journey hasn't been easy. The community faced the kind of challenges and set-backs, the triumphs and disasters. If you work in a school, an agency or community organisation you're probably very familiar with the challenges.
Victory has developed through perseverance and hard work, trial and error, baby steps, as well as great leaps.
If Victory can do it - so can you!
I'm now making it my mission to help other communities create a hub.
I want to help other communities by sharing the experience, principles & processes I have developed during my years at Victory.
